A BAD DAY FOR YOUR EGO, IS A GREAT DAY FOR YOUR SOUL

Glorious morning!
It has been a bit since I have posted my newsletter and I am thrilled to be back in the flow with this. Today let's get into a quote by Jillian Michaels. "A bad day for your Ego is a great day for your soul". I just love this quote. I refer to the ego as the late Wayne Dyer once did, "Ego stands for Edging God Out". If we take that exactly as it says, then it deserves some serious attention. The last thing I want to do is edge God out in my life. On the contrary, I want to edge God in.

Like everybody else on the planet we have our share of joy and sorrows. My journey with being a Tai Chi Gung student and teacher has completely rearranged my ego. In a really positive way. Ego needs acknowledgement or we can't let it be rearranged.( We can’t change what we don’t acknowledge) It has benn my experience that the ego can make us over confident and arrogant if we are not aware and also self-sabotaging. Signs of a self-sabotaging ego are, needing to always be right, not comfortable with apologizing, becoming defensive when challenged, feeling threatened by others success, using shame, guilt or even intimidation to maintain power and control. The list goes on and on.

I have been guilty of all of those things I just mentioned and I was not aware of it. Raising my consciousness through the Tai Chi Gung exercises shed the light of truth on what my ego has really been up to all the years of my life. Ego can be very fear based , another practice of edging God out. Fear in fact, is the complete opposite polarity of God. So I think it’s safe to say if we do not learn how to recognize when our ego is leading the way , it will lead us to repetitive cycles of the same frustrations and eventually ruin our lives.

An example I can give of my own personal experience with an unhealthy ego is with my former marriage. I was married for a little over 30 years. The entire time I was married, I tried to convince my partner that HE needed to change or I could not be happy. Because I used up a lot of my energy focusing on his shortcomings that he needed to fix, I diverted the energy I could have used to fix myself. What my ego was cleverly doing the whole time was helping me avoid my own baggage. You see when we focus on others, it distracts our much needed attention for our own self development.

Another thing I became aware of was being jealous of other people's success, particularly women. Why? Because I did not have the belief deep down inside to create and fulfill my own dreams. (unconscious fear) I realize now it was just my own fear of potential failure. The ego comes in so many disguises, which is why it is so important to look in that mirror.

Healthy examples of ego are, having confidence without needing to prove superiority, feeling secure even when others succeed, knowing your value without constant validation, celebrating others instead of competing with them, being able to receive criticism thoughtfully, and again the list goes on. So back to the quote, “A bad day for the ego is a great day for your soul”. I am grateful my connection to the divine through Tai Chi Gung. It has allowed me to give many more bad days for my ego and so many great days for my soul. The more I surrendered to the will of the divine, the more my ego was gently called out. If we don't get defensive when that happens, we can really making progress. We are here to learn, expand and create. If our ego is the only one having a good day, we will stay stuck. The more good days we give our soul, the better our life gets. When our life gets better, it makes the peoples lives around us get better. The best contribution we can give to humanity is the greatest version of ourselves. The best grounded version and the best loving version.
