Are distractions stealing your focus?

Glorious morning!
Let’s expand together on this very short but very profound quote by King Oenomaus also known as just Oenomaus. The quote goes as follows,
“ A gladiator’s first distraction is his last. “
Wow, That tiny little quote speaks so loud, yes? First a little bit about King Oenomaus. In Greek mythology he was a Greek king. He had a vision from an oracle that said he would be killed by his future son in law. He then proclaimed that whoever wishes to have his daughter's hand in marriage, must race him in a chariot race. Whoever lost would be put to death. ( yikes! ) Many lost and were put to death. His chariot was secretly sabotaged for the last race he would do. He didn't know about the wheels on his chariot being tampered with so that they would eventually fall off. He lost the race and died.
So what does this little quote say to me? I feel it says how important focus is when wanting to achieve something. Not having laser focus can really take away from our own potential and achievements. It can also prevent us from fulfilling our life’s purpose. To me that is tragic. I also feel not having good focus is a product of fear we have buried inside of us from old experiences, and from the enormous amounts of information being thrown at us daily, particularly from technology. If we struggle getting tasks completed each day, we need to ask ourselves, Where the heck am I spending my time? I have spent most of my life not really knowing how to laser focus for myself. I mastered laser focus when taking care of my children when they were growing up and the focus was on them, but when it came to my life's goals and dreams, well that was another story I had to look into.
Looking back on what I know now, I did not have the confidence to laser focus on ME because that would mean I would have to look at , well, ME! I didn't have a problem focusing on helping others like my family and friends. I had a problem with putting the focus on myself. I didn't want to look at why I was not fulfilling my soul's desires and allowing myself to be distracted. If I chose to look at why, then that would have meant I needed to take responsibility for why. Why was I putting myself last? I feel when we let ourselves get distracted by caring for others, It is just a way of giving ourselves a justifiable excuse to not do our own work on ourselves. To not face the reasons “ why “. In my case, putting my needs behind the needs of others was simply a distraction unconsciously designed to take my time away from myself. Then we get to say “ well I just don't have the time for self care “ . If we can’t find the time to focus on ourselves, then who is managing the production of our dreams? No wonder our dreams never come true. Dreams require our focus. After our dreams get our focus then they require laser focus. Laser focus is when we have enough self love to say “ I love you all, BUT , I can't give to you in the capacity like I once did “ “ I need time for myself and the energy to put action to my dreams”. It is not enough for us to daydream about our ideal life that we want, that is just the very first step of many steps that are required for our dreams to come to fruition. When we dedicate a lot of our detailed, focused attention to our dreams and goals, then they can get created by us, then we can take the daily action steps needed. Where do we find time for this? Usually by taking time away from the many distractions that have hypnotized us. Our dreams need laser attention, or they will forever remain just dreams.
