Don't stop!

Glorious morning!
I am bringing back a favorite today, Confucius. His quotes are timeless and profound when expanded on. Let’s expand together.
“ It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop “
Let's remember who Confucius is again. Confucius was born in 551 BC. he was a young man when he set his heart and mind on learning as much as he could. By his 30’s he became a brilliant teacher who shared his knowledge of several subjects, including arithmetic, history, and poetry. His wishes were that everyone in China had access to an education and devoted his whole life to learning and teaching so he could help transform society.
What this quote says to me is, don't give up. It also says to me that even one little baby step towards your goals and desires each day will bring your dreams to fruition, as long as you are making some kind of effort towards them daily. My spiritual teacher Master Lama Rasaji always reminds his students to start and go slow, why go slow? Well let's face it, we can get overwhelmed when we are anxiously striving towards something and that can cause mistakes and exhaustion. When we are overwhelmed and exhausted, it’s very easy to give up. If we can set a stage where we are making slow and steady progress without taxing our health and emotions, then it's a win win. Setting a timeline is a good thing so we dont give an opportunity for complacency. On the other hand a realistic timeline on your goal is crucial so we don't put unnecessary pressure on ourselves. We don't want to be in competition with anyone either, that only diverts your attention to the actual goal itself and turns the one you are competing against the focus. Even in a competitive race you want to focus most of your attention on your actual performance and managing that , and not the other people in the race.
Distractions can take us away from the goal. Let’s even take it one step further, even if you didn't come in 1st place in the race, you finished it, you didn't quit. Not finishing things is an easy habit to get into. If we start and go slow on our dreams and keep the momentum going we eventually get there. Like digging a 10 foot hole, it starts with breaking the dirt, then one foot is dug, then two, and then if you keep going and don't stop, you reach the goal of ten feet. It is inevitable if you don't stop. Some of us who are in great shape might be able to dig that hole with a shovel in several hours, others it could take a couple of hours each day for 5 days, depending on what you can handle. In both scenarios the hole gets dug, just in a different timeline.
So now I will make you laugh, It took me over 30 years to learn a valuable lesson. ( start go slow ) I entered a relationship for codependent reasons unbeknownst to me at the time, I really did believe it was part of my job to help someone fix their life. I belived that he needed me to do that, you know to be a kind of mother to him, all while I was still broken myself. So although it took over 30 years to get to my personal dreams of emotional and financial independence, at least I didn't give up on myself. It might have taken me a long time to be able to be brave enough to look at my imperfections and take responsibility for them and forgive myself for them, but I didn't give up. Sometimes the reward is even sweeter when the struggle to get there was rough. We find out what our strengths really are when we don't give up. I am getting better and better at not rushing my goals, without that desperate “ I gotta have it now “ mentality. Sometimes that rush to get there is really because we are comparing ourselves to other people's lives and where they are at.
Do you struggle with being okay with where you are at as you are working towards your dreams? Are you not able to smell the roses along the way and enjoy the process no matter how slow you may think it's going? I can help you identify why. Make a free discovery call today. Peace be with you, Dawn
