Remember Why You Are Really Here
Remember Why You Are Really Here

Glorious morning!

This morning's quote comes from Woodrow Wilson.

“ We are not here merely to make a living. We are here to enrich the world “

Woodrow Wilson was born in 1856 and died in 1924. He was the 28th president of the United States in which he served from 1913 to 1921.

I love this quote because it reminds us of the trap many of us fall prey to. Wake up, go to work, eat, shower, repeat, with just a little free time to catch up on cleaning, shopping, maintaining vehicles, and well ,you get the picture. The trouble comes when we aren't carving out time to cultivate our spiritual growth ( the evolution of our soul ) and become servants to the machine instead.

A Lot of people start running towards quick fixes for relief, like alcohol, drugs, sex, shopping and whatever else brings quick momentary relief. Our soul could care less about those things. Our soul needs connection. The soul accepts no substitutes either. Our connection to the greatest part of who we are is essential. If everyone has the spark of the divine dwelling inside , then it's important to make sure that the very spark is not getting drowned out by outward momentary pleasures. We all can see what happens when we are consumed by outward stimuli , we are witnessing a world that has trapped themself in it, and a world that is so focused on consumerism that many are in debt. Being in debt is another self induced trap of the machine.

So back to the quote. “ We are not here to merely make a living. We are here to enrich the world “ So how does one get unstuck from the perpetual “ making a living “ part so they have time to pursue their natural born talents to give back to the world and therefore enrich it ? No matter how you slice it, it comes back to staring in the mirror and evaluating our personal existence and asking questions like, “ Why am I here? “ and “ What is my purpose?” If we do not take the time to ask those what I call “ self responsibility questions “ we will continue to wake up, wash and repeat. When we deny the soul its purpose because we say we are too “ busy “ then we can never feel what it's like to be whole. Our soul needs a deep connection in some form of love and service to others in order to thrive. Here is a true story that I came across recently that just brought me to tears in a way my soul needs. The story reminded me of why we are REALLY here.

I watched a short story on youtube about a Oklahoma police officer who responded to a call of a young child who ran to a neighbor's house in an emaciated state saying he thought his parents were trying to kill him. The police officer responded to the call to find horrific living conditions at the boys home. He saw clearly from the squalor-like conditions of the house and the physical and emotional state of the young boy that abuse and severe neglect was going on and had been for years. The parents were arrested and the boy put in foster care. But here is where the quote we are expanding on explains itself, although the police officer did his job where he was making a living, his soul would not leave him alone. He could not stop thinking about the innocent child's life. Instead of ignoring his soul's whisper, he decided to listen. Although he already had 2 children of his own, he and his wife and the promptings of love upon their souls, decided to rescue him again in another way, adoption. Wait! It gets better, the abused boy’s former mother who was serving her jail sentence for child abuse crimes, gave birth to a baby girl in prison. YES! They adopted her also. That police officer is a perfect example of making time to enrich the world. We all think we are too busy and have to pay the bills? Well that police officer and his wife didn't say they don't have the time and love to care for 2 more children, they said, we must share our love and make the time. That's where the enrichment comes in. A win-win situation all because that police officer decided to make more than just a living. May he be an example for us all.
