Change Starts With You
Change Starts With You

Glorious morning!

In this morning's quote we will expand on a quote from Paramahansa Yogananda.

“Change yourself and you have done your part in changing the world “.

Who is Paramahansa Yogananda? He was an Indian-American Hindu monk, yogi and guru.He was born in 1893 and died in 1952. He is responsible for introducing meditation and kriya yoga to millions here in the west. He created the self realization center. His main mission in life was to prove the unity between eastern and western religions and to also help spread balance between western material growth and Indian spirituality.

What his quote says to me is, when we work on changing ourselves, we take the focus on what's wrong with the world and focus on what’s wrong with us. Doesn't sound like much fun right? Who wants to focus on their shortcomings? Well if we don't learn the art of self examination, how can we ever change a bad habit? It's not like we live in a world where it is rare to have a negative influencing character trait . Lets face it, this world has its share of dysfunction and negativity, and we all add to it. To stop adding our own negative stuff to the collective is how we help and give back to the world. I believe we came here not to just live a solitary life and please ourselves. We came here to contribute our beautiful unique gifts.

If we have negative traits that are getting ignored by us, then we are adding and sharing them along with our gifts with the world. When we learn to stop adding the negatives, we can safely say we are contributing responsibly to mankind. That can only start with self reflection. Self reflection leads to self realization. When we become a self realized human being, we become a responsible one. Responsibility is not just to pay the bills and keep our dwelling place clean and our bodies clean. We all have a responsibility to not add to the current negativity that is already happening. Complaining about how awful the world is does nothing but create negative frequencies, and those frequencies move outward from you into the collective. It's like seeing garbage on the ground while walking through the park and you say to yourself, “ that is aweful “ and at the end of your walk you open a piece of candy and throw the wrapper on the ground.

So adding to the negative parts of life on this planet only keeps it further away from positive transformation. Transformimg our world can only happen one person at a time through taking responsibility for ourselves. I can easily see how I was not doing my part through the years. I was horrified when I learned of the trafficked children on the planet. I was tempted to just ignore it all together so I didn't have to deal with the awful feelings that came with the realization of that horrible truth. You know, stick my fingers in my ears and say La, La, La, La. Well I decided to let the horror of it motivate me to do something. I got involved with a volunteer group that helped spread awareness to the madness. However, I realized if I was ever really going to be able to help these children, particularly with the after care they need when they get rescued, I need to be a healed Dawn first. I had my own childhood issues that were not dealt with, healed and released. How could I possibly help lead children to a healed state if I had not done it myself first. My intentions would be true but my guidance would still be influenced by my own past trauma. By healing and changing myself, I can be so much more effective at helping guide someone out of their past traumas. You can't show someone how to ride a two wheel bike if you have never learned how to yourself.

Changing what is negative or broken within us, frees us to lead and help others do the same. That's how the world changes for the better, with our own change.
